Education System Overview

In the 2015-2016 academic year, 4,632 U.S. students studied abroad for academic credit in Denmark, a 61% increase since 2012.

Academic year: September – June

Major school holidays/break:

  • Fall break: 1 week in October
  • Christmas break: 2 weeks in December
  • Easter break: 1 week in April
  • Summer break: July and August

Structure of the University System

Years of study required to earn a bachelor's degree: 3 (Bachelor's degree) + 2 (Master's degree)

The language of instruction in universities: Danish and English

Three years of English language classes are required for all Danish high schoolers, as well as an additional 2-3 years for university students.
