Virtual Training

USA Study Abroad is pleased to announce a series of free virtual trainings for advisors of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program and the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program. The trainings will be led by hosts of past Gilman and CLS Advisor Workshops and focus on specific topics important to the Gilman and CLS recruitment and selection processes.

  1. Strategies for Increasing Awareness of Study Abroad Opportunities: University of Kentucky Friday, September 11 from Noon-1:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Register here.
  2. Advisor Roles and Opportunities: University of Alabama and Birmingham-Southern College Thursday, September 24 from 1:00-2:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Register here.
  3. Supporting Students Though the Application Process: University of Rhode Island Friday, September 25 from Noon-1:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Register here.

Advisors of all experience levels, including those new to one or both programs, are encouraged to attend. The trainings are a great opportunity to learn advising best practices and to engage in virtual discussions with advisors from across the United States. We hope to accommodate everyone who is interested in participating in the trainings, but registration is limited to 500 attendees per training. Registrants are encouraged to review program details on the Gilman Program website and the CLS Program website prior to attending a training.

The Gilman and CLS Programs are programs of the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and supported in their implementation by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and American Councils for International Education, respectively.

Please direct any questions you have regarding the training series to gilmanevents@iie.org.

We thank you for your continued support of our programs and for championing international education on your campuses during this unprecedented time for the field.
