Academic year: Kandahar and Nangarhar provinces are warm climate. All other provinces are cold climate.

  • Cold Climate: School begins in March, ends in December
  • Warm Climate: School begins in September, ends in June

Major school holidays/break:

  • Cold Climate: December – March and July
  • Warm Climate: June – September and 1 week in January

Eight years of English languages classes are required for all Afghan high school students, as well as an additional 2-4 years for university students.

Years of study required to earn a bachelor's degree: 4 years

Degrees offered: Bachelors, Masters

The language of instruction in universities: Dari/Farsi in the areas where majority speak the language, Pashto in the Pashto speaking areas, and English in a number of private institutions of higher education. Engineering and Medicine schools have some courses and handouts in English. An English-medium BBA program started at Kabul University in 2015.
